BACKGROUND:

Persona 3 takes place in the year 2009 in Iwatodai, Japan. Day times are seemingly normal, in which the main characters spend a majority of their time going to school at Gekkoukan High. Even the world itself is as normal as it can get. However during the night, there's a phenomenon known as the Dark Hour. It begins at 12 A.M., lasting an entire hour. People who don't have the ability to summon a persona, or the possibility of summoning one aren't aware of this hour at all. Time passes on normally for them. During this time, things turn quite bizarre. Everything is tinted green, bodies of water turn crimson. A majority of people are transformed into coffins, and can be seen just about anywhere. Electricity ceases to function, unless it's built specifically for the Dark Hour.

During the Dark Hour, Gekkoukan High is replaced by a massive tower absolutely crawling with shadows. This tower is known as Tartarus. Since the protagonist and their friends are attuned with personas, they are capable of being up during the Dark Hour, and going into Tartarus. They are all part of The Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad, or otherwise known as S.E.E.S. It's disguised as a club for school, when in actuality it's a group for those with personas that investigate Tartarus and the Dark Hour. They spend their time during this hour eliminating shadows.

The Dark Hour hadn't always existed. Ten years prior, the existence of shadows were discovered by the Kirijo group. Shadows are monsters born from humans, and have human emotions--Negative ones, mostly. They also discovered they had the ability to manipulate both time and space. They collected massive amounts of shadows, and discovered a prophecy known as The Fall--Or the end of the world. Accepting this, the scientists decided to attempt to rejuvenate Death.

The experiments came to an awful end the moment one of the younger scientists interrupted them. Death was forced to split into thirteen different shadows; each with a respective arcana. Those shadows ended up rampaging, destroying the lab and those in it. From the building emerged Tartarus.

This is where Aigis comes in. Aigis is an Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon, built to look human so she could develop an ego and have a persona of her own. Her job of course is to eliminate shadows, and her purpose was to destroy death or seal away death. She was incapable of doing the first, and had to do the latter. There had been a nearby car crash, and the sole survivor of it had been a boy--The main protagonist. She had to do what had to be done, and sealed death away within him. During all of this, she had become damaged--Thus being put out of commission for ten years.

Whilst the members of S.E.E.S. were on vacation in Yakushima, she's found upon a pier; staring out into the ocean. Aigis expresses no interest with those who had approached her, but the instant the main character approaches something jogs her memory; and she remembers him. Yet she doesn't stay for long, and runs off. Sooner or later she's found, and revealed as an anti shadow weapon made by the Kirijo Group.

The adviser of S.E.E.S., Shuji Ikutsuki assigns Aigis to work for S.E.E.S., and thus begins living in the dorm with the other members. It takes her a while, but eventually she does end up going to school, only to be the main character's body guard whilst there. She doesn't understand her motives in being protective of him, but she continues to do so. As time passes, she begins questioning herself, although she could never quite find an answer. When the new transfer student, Ryoji Mochizuki appears her protectiveness of the protagonist heightens. Due to this she displays hostility towards Ryoji--Sensing something off about him. She tells the protagonist to stay away from him.

The last two of the arcana shadows remained, and shortly after the twelfth one falls, Ikutsuki ends up reprogramming Aigis. Trying to get her to lure the members of S.E.E.S. into Tartarus. His goal was to bring about the fall early, and thus wanted to get rid of them. Yet the moment she turned her weapon to the protagonist, she couldn't do it. Her feelings for him were too strong, and thus she breaks the reprogramming. She saves them, but in their place Takeharu Kirijo gets killed.

Some time passes, and soon enough she encounters and fights Ryoji on the Moonlight Bridge. The same bridge she had fought Death on ten years before. It was then through broken circuitry that she remembers the ordeal from back then. She then understands her reasoning for wanting to protect the protagonist. It was out of guilt for what she had done. She also realizes since Ryoji is a incarnation of death, that he was her enemy. By the end of the fight, she's damaged and is out for an entire month of December.

When she returns, she finds herself having a crisis over her purpose. She asks for the protagonist to kill Ryoji, as she felt like she was a failure for not being able to carry out her motives. She also had commented on how she couldn't feel, that it was part of being a robot. After being comforted by her party, her resolve strengthens, and as does her persona.

Death was responsible for the summoning of Nyx, who sought to bring The Fall. During this time, everyone was aware of the Dark Hour--Regardless of Persona or not. Upon the top of Tartarus, they had fought. Aigis of course present during the fight. As the battle went on, it did little to Nyx, and she eventually connected to the moon; her true physical body. As she descended, it immobilized everyone...Save for the protagonist. Who proceeded to fight her, and seal her away with his soul.

Everything came to pass. Tartarus disappeared, and as did the Dark Hour. Aigis was the only one out of everyone that remembered these things initially, as did she remember the protagonist was on borrowed time. She allows him to live peacefully during this time, and as he begins to drift away, she promises that she'll protect him.

PERSONALITY:

Aigis to begin with started out like a typical robot. A robot that was purpose driven, and bound to do whatever orders she was given. She tended to be very emotionless, being incapable of understanding emotions. Which is part of the reason why she hadn't understood her protectiveness at first. There were many, many things she didn't understand; humanity and how humans generally went over her head. She had even mentioned it that she was a robot, she couldn't feel, nor weep.

Though as she stayed around the protagonist and the others, she slowly began to learn more of her emotions and humanity. Her robotic behavior began to subside, although it was still there. Many things still went over her head, and there's still quite a bit she doesn't understand. She had come to understand her protectiveness, however. She is capable of feeling many emotions; happiness, sadness, guilt, anger. So on. Yet there's times where she doesn't understand other people's emotions--Especially when they're ill towards her.

Aigis is very polite to many people, and tends to be sweet as well. She's compassionate, and loyal to those she's close to; and they're bonds she'd never break. She's genuinely friendly as well, making her easy to befriend. She's determined, and strong hearted in her own ways. On the other hand she can have bouts of bluntness; whether it be on purpose or accident. She also has little bouts where she attempts to joke, though they're not entirely funny. Sometimes she still takes things quite literally, however.

POWER:
Aigis has the ability to summon a Persona called Pallas Athena. It's a manifestation of herself, and in a way is similar to a shadow. Except Personas are far more tame, and controllable. The entity when summoned will appear behind her, but it is no larger than a car. This persona has a few attacks in particular, but mainly it attacks with its spear. Each attack is a piercing attack, and can hit from a range to one to three enemies. Another ability it has is far from offensive. It has the ability to heal one person of their injuries...Moderately, at least.

The persona will disappear after some time, though.

Due to being a weapon herself, she has guns built into her. The ends of her fingers can transform into tiny gun barrels. Upon her arms are canisters of bullets for reloading.

She also has something called Orgia Mode, which ups her capabilities and attacks during battle. It has a downside, however. If she uses it, she tends to overheat, and then immobilizes herself in the process.
